It started with a window and a frying pan.
One ran with condensation every morning from October to March. The other came in a beautiful box and shed its coating into the eggs. Both could have been built better. Nobody had bothered.
The cheap one froze up. The expensive one had no pump.
The window was the bedroom one, and the black line along the bottom of the frame came back however often it was wiped. The first dehumidifier was the cheap one, and it froze solid in a week. The second cost nearly three times as much, was a brand we had heard of, filled its tank every six hours, and had no pump. So it sat by the bed like a bucket with a plug.
The frying pan was eleven months old. It cost more than the two before it, the box said all the right things, and the coating was coming off in the scrambled eggs anyway. When we looked it up, we found the company had been taken to court over what it wrote on that box.
Then it kept happening. A purifier with a big claim on the front and nothing anywhere about how much air it actually cleaned. A humidifier that grew a black film in two weeks. A cordless vacuum whose battery could not be replaced, so at year two the whole machine was thrown away. An air fryer whose basket peeled.
Every one of those was fixable. A bigger tank and a pump. A real number on the box. A battery that clicks out. A pan with nothing on it to fail. A glass bowl and steel racks. None of it is difficult. It is just cheaper not to do it, and easier not to say.
So we built the versions we wanted to buy. Every one is run in a real home before it gets our name, and we tell you exactly what is inside it.
